INTRO TO USING THE BRIDGE

Using the BRIDGE for text capture.

First, what is the Bridge? What does it do? How do we use it?

We can use the BRIDGE in the First Name Almanac or the Gift Factory to capture text from the PREVIEW screen. Then we'll use the captured text to transfer the text into the EasyGiftWizard or PaintShop-PRO.

The bridge captures the "image of text" and converts the "image of text" into true text, called OCR, Optical Character Recognition.
Then the Bridge allows you to edit the converted text and saves this into the Windows clipboard.
From the Windows Clipboard, it can be used to paste into a new poem, edit it, and print it.

NOTE: An alternative to using the BRIDGE is to use SnagIt "Copy to text" feature. SnagIt Video

OCR

The Bridge is a text capture, OCR application. What is OCR? OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, is a tool that allows you to extract information from an image and turn the image of text in an image into searchable, editable text data. So the Bridge, being an OCR app, can convert the "image of text" (a photo) on our computer screen, into true text data that can be edited and manipulated in a word processor or text editor then printed, etc. For example, an "image of text" is a photo of text, like the photo of a roadside billboard, your driver's license, or the photo of the page in a book. The "image of text" is not the same as text. Just the same as the image of a cow is not the cow itself. You can milk a cow but you can not get milk from the "image of a cow." In the same way, the image of text is not text! You need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) app to convert the "image of text" into text, so you can use it in a text editor of some kind.

Our use is to extract the meaning of a Name from the First Name Almanac or the Gift Factory and use this text data to create another name or poem or better still in the EasyGiftWizard, or PaintShop Pro.

FIRST - Activate Clipboard History

Clipboard History must be ON to take full advantage of the BRIDGE. NOTE: This only needs done once. ON will be saved as your default.

Click in the Search Bar.
Type "Clipboard" into the Search Bar. In the results, click on OPEN.
On the Clipboard settings window, be sure Clipboard history is set ON.
Close the setting window.
Clipboard History ON is now your default.
Open Clipboard History to verify it is ON by holding down the WinKey and while still holding it down press the "v" key (WinKey+v).
This opens the Clipboard History to use.
To use an object in the Clipboard History click on it and it will be pasted and then close the History popup.
Otherwise, close the popup by clicking anywhere on the screen without pasting.

NOTE: ctrl-c, ctrl+v, WinKey+v, and WinKey+q, respectively, mean to use a two-key combination.

ctrl+c is the combination of the "ctrl" key plus the "c" key together. Holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the C key then letting off at the same time. This action copies the currently highlighted object or block of text into the top position in the Windows clipboard. In order to press these two keys together, you can begin by holding down the "ctrl" key first and while still holding it press the "c" key letting off both at the same time. This action is denoted by ctrl+c.
ctrl+v is the combination of the "ctrl" key plus the "v" key together. Holding down the "ctrl" key and pressing the "v" key pastes the contents of the first position in the clipboard into the current cursor location.
WinKey+v is the combination of the "WinKey" key plus the "v" key together.
WinKey+q is the combination of the "WinKey" key plus the "q" key together. IE: Press the WinKey, and the q key together by holding down the WinKey and while holding it tap the q key letting off both at the same time. This action is denoted by WinKey+q.

1 - Add a Poem captured using the Mouse cursor.

Here we learn how to capture and add a poem from a text resource. Capture a poem from the Love and Romance Resource page.

Use your mouse, holding down the left button drag across the text to select to copy. Use ctrl+c to copy text or right-click and select Copy from the dropdown.
Verify the copy by Viewing the Windows clipboard using WinKey+v

Note: if the Windows Clipboard is not activated do so now! See the previous video.

To ADD a POEM

Open the KKSoft Gift Factory
Then select "Create and Add..." The poem title must be the same as the first line of the poem being added
Paste in the poem text using ctrl-v or WinKey+v
Proof and edit poem and
add a tilde, ~ , before and after the authors' name.
Spell check poem
Save the poem.
Check the poem was added correctly.
Proof in PREVIEW.

2 - Add a Poem - Changing the font in a poem

Learn how to change the font in a poem.

Click on the SELECT FONT button
Click in the font list window
Quickly press on the G then I keys, which jumps down the list to the font named Gift Factory
To select it click OK
Click PREVIEW to check the results of the font change.
Close PREVIEW
If not happy with this font repeat steps 1 thru 5.
When satisfied close PREVIEW and click PRINT.

3 - Add a Poem - Capture text from an image with text.

Learn how to use the Bridge to capture text from an image with text in the image.

NOTE: Using the mouse cursor text capture method taught in an earlier video will not work here because the text we want is in an image. It is NOT text! It is an image of text; a photo of text.

Be aware: If you want to change the default HOT-KEY, then right-clicking on the icon in the system tray will allow changes to the defaults.

Click on the Bridge option in the apps menu to activate it.
Check the taskbar and system tray to be sure it is activated. When activated its' icon will show in one of these places.
Navigate to the image with the text to be captured.
Place the mouse cursor at to upper left above the image area to be captured.
Press the HOT KEY combination which are these two keys WinKey and q together by holding down the WinKey and while holding it tap the q key, letting off both at the same time. This action is denoted by WinKey+q.
The cursor turns into a pointer.
Drag down and across the area, you want to capture.
DO NOT HOLD DOWN ANY BUTTON, JUST DRAG!
Click ENTER when the area you want to capture is highlighted.
The capture edit window will pop up. In it check the accuracy of the conversion and make any edits, additions, and adjustments desired.
When satisfied click OK
Navigate back to where you want to use the converted text and paste it in.

4 - Add a Poem - Add a poem from the Clipboard

In order to add a poem already captured in the Windows Clipboard...

Click on Poems to open the Gift Factory.
Click on "Create and Add My Own Poetry & Verses"
On the upper right click on "Add a new poem."
The poem title must be the same as the first line of the poem being added. Type in the title and click OK
Paste in the poem text using ctrl-v or WinKey+v
Proof and edit poem and add a tilde, ~ , before and after the authors' name.
Spell check poem
Save the poem.
Check the poem was added correctly.
Proof in PREVIEW.

5 - Create a new poem from an existing poem, using the Bridge

NOTE: if you are having problems capturing accurately, consider the following, use Arial Black font with font size 100%, add a white background to use.

To create a new poem utilizing an existing poem, using the Bridge...

Be sure the Bridge is active as explained in a previous video.
Lookup the poem you wish to utilize in the Gift Factory.
Select a plain background, Royal Parchment works well.
Click PREVIEW, to view the image with the text to be captured.
Place the mouse cursor at to upper left above the image area to be captured.
Press the HOT KEY combination, is are these two keys, WinKey and q together, by holding down the WinKey and while holding it tap the q key letting off both at the same time (WinKey+q).
The cursor turns into a pointer.
Drag down and across the area, you want to capture. DO NOT HOLD DOWN ANY BUTTON, JUST DRAG!

Anniversary Almanac - Workaround

Use PRINT CENTERING so "garbage" is printed off the page.

The dated data in this app can not be updated since the source code and methods were lost when the developer, Ken Kirkpatrick passed away. This causes weddings after 2006 to print garbage at the bottom were it was to have printed future anniversaries. To avoid this we set the PRINT CENTERING so this "garbage" is printed off the page. This video will demonstrate how to do this.
